Maroubra is a very well known surf beach, the name means ‘like thunder’ and when you’re there, you can hear just why. So the beach isn’t the best for young children, however the excellent fenced playground is really good, ideal for children aged five and under.

Just up the hill and to the south of glorious Coogee Beach, this is a terrific, large playground with equipment to satisfy all ages groups. The playground has been improved a lot since I first visited with one wild toddler in 2000. So has the toddler, now a teenager!
