Post image for Sydney’s Best Playgrounds – Willoughby Park

Having visited a couple of times recently, I am convinced again that Willoughby Park has one of the best playgrounds on the lower-ish part of the North Shore.

Enjoy the very large area of actual fenced playground plus several other play and sports areas.

See you there!

Willoughby Park Playground

McClelland Street, Willoughby

Council website here.

There’s so much to do in this playground and in the park itself. This is a really large area and really lends itself to meeting up with groups of people.

In the fenced playground itself, you can enjoy:
* a large tunnel, under the groovy hillside slides
* a big sandpit
* good swings
* balancing beams
* spices
* junior slide
* musical instruments
* the roundabout pictured below

There is a large oval too, and a dogpark beyond that.

The oval has a paved bike track all the way around it, terrific for the adventurous older under fives and older siblings… oh yes, and active parents, grandparents etc etc

Nearest takeaway coffee: BYO, or send a runner to the cafes nearby on High Street

Toilets: Toilet block beside the oval

Shade: Plenty as there are lots of huge trees

Enclosed:  Yes, large fully fenced playground, but biketrack, climbing frame and oval are close to roads

Mum’s report: Bring a sausage and some bread, a bowl of salad and a Thermos flask and feed the kids dinner whilst you’re here. Actually, bring some snacks and a bottle of wine too… why not?!

Parking: Street parking on McClelland Street and car spaces on Warrane Road

Bus stop nearby: Yes

Willoughby Park oval

The oval is right beside the playground and has a terrific biketrack all around it. Great place for ball games.

Here’s a wee video I took one another day recently.  Hope you enjoy it!

We’ve had some lovely expeditions to this playground, have you?

Can you add your thoughts on this or other Sydney playgrounds?

It is… we used to live round the corner and go there a lot when my older boys were little. It’s been improved since then and it’s really great. As is visiting with older kids, it’s become quite a relaxing trip out for me. At last!!

I’m from Melbourne and there are some great playground here too. But I remember when I went to Sydney for a week end, I absolutely loved The Botanical Garden.

Yes it’s a gorgeous place isn’t. It’s an exciting trip when we take the ferry to Circular Quay and walk there.
