Little Manly Beach Kiosk – Sydney’s Best Beachside Cafes For Kids {Updated}

Little Manly Beach cafe kiosk A safe harbour beach, a netted pool with fantastic places to climb and leap joyfully into the water. A kiosk and cafe with fantastic views. You’d seriously have to be bonkers not to get straight down there with the kids.

Little Manly Beach is a beaut spot in itself, but having the cafe there too really makes it a family mecca, and it’s as good on sunny winter days as it is in the ice block melting scorching days of summer.

There’s something there for all ages of kids. My daughter loves the rock pools with their crabs and anemones. Rusty Rocket loves leaping off the shark net walkway.  Dexbox wore goggles and chased fish for ages.  Giant Teen loves jumping too, showing off for the pretty girls I suspect.

Queenscliff Beach and Rock Pool on Sydney’s North Shore

Queenscliff beach rock pool Sydney

Of course, we should never play favourites, neither with beaches nor with our kids.

But can I confess a little love affair with Queenscliff beach and rock pool? Mainly it’s because they are so close to the fantastic Lagoon Park Playground.

But also, I’ve sneaked down here when the kids are all at school, swum some laps in the pool and then gone for a coffee to the Jellyfish Cafe just along the road.

Mona Vale Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches

Mona Vale Beach cafe rock pools

I’m just a little bit in love with Mona Vale beach, is it one you know too?

It’s special for me because it’s where I did my ocean swimming with Can Too last summer, and reignited a long dormant love of adventures on the ocean.

It really had been a long time (and four children) since my last watery adventures, and since I last felt so exhilerated... and so scared at times too.

The first time we did our ocean swimming at Mona Vale, a pod of dolphins came and swam alongside us.

Sydney Coastal Walks With Kids – Dee Why To Curl, Curl

Dee Why Walk-3crop

It’s become a habit to always do something good for me on the day before school holidays start and the day after they wend.

And yesterday I especially needed a treat, a bit of a boost.  I’d found the last couple of days of the holidays really hard and had been very weepy.

Wannabees Family Play Town – Sydney’s Best Indoor Play Centres

wannabees dress up

Wannabees is a play centre deluxe, with the added benefit of play leaders and fantastic dress ups and imaginative play spaces.

The play centre has been set up like a small town, a play leader takes children to visit and play in different areas. It’s such fun.

Wannabees Play Town

C1/ 1-3 Rodborough Road, Frenchs Forest (special offers posted here/post comment for free coffee)

Opening Times: Mon-Tue 9:30 to 2:00 pm, Wed-Fri 9:30 to 6:00 pm, Sat-Sun 9:30 to 5:00 pm

This indoor play centre with a difference is really a delight for young kids. We visited recently with the twins, who are six years old and they really enjoyed it. There were lots of younger children there and some older ones too.

It’s best to book in and to arrive in good time for either the morning or afternoon session to start. Our session started at 10am, with a play leader gathering the children around the stage and starting off with the Wannabees song.  She then explained some rules like always tidying up what has been used, and keeping shoes on in the play rooms.

Here’s the list of all the places the kids can play:

Post Office
Honey Room cafe
Police Station
Fire Station
TV Studio
Doctors Surgery
Fashion shop
Beauty salon
Interior Design room

There’s also a large stage, a climbing wall, soft play areas and, of course, the huge play structure.

My two started in the fire station, they enjoyed dressing up in fireman’s jackets and hats and LOVED hosing out the (fake!) flames. Next they did some shopping at the supermarket with play money and then playing doctors and nurses, with me as the patient patient.

It’s lovely to do some imaginative play where the kids are also picking up some real life skills.

Cafe: large cafe has good menu and free wifi

Baby change: Yes, in children’s toilets

Parties are run by the play leaders

Passmore Reserve Playground – Best Playgrounds in Sydney’s North

Passmore Reserve Playground
One of our favourites for years, we love the bushy feel of this fully-enclosed playground.

With lots of wooden play structures, and plenty of space for playing, it’s a playground where kids imaginations, as well as their little bodies, can run wild and free.

Have gone a bit mad with the camera here, but I hope you can forgive me!

Collaroy Beach – For Kids and Their Families

Collaroy is a splendid spot for families, one of the really great places on the Northern Beaches.

It’s the combo of family-friendliness that makes it special; the winning trifecta of beach, rockpool and good playground.

And lets not forget the kid-friendly cafes close by.

There are heaps more lovely photos of the beach here.  All these photos were taken on an early autumn morning when very few families were around. Never mind!

Hidden Gems- My Top Five Secret Beaches of Sydney

When I was a wee girl growing up in Bonnie Scotland, beaches were all about seaweed and stones.

There are sandy beaches in Scotland, but we spent most of our time at the more typically Scottish sort. And we four kids loved them!

We went to many, many beaches. Dad loved his boat and we spent our summer holidays sailing around the Hebridean islands. We scrambled over boulders, climbed cliffs, and loved to turn over rocks to chase the wee beasties that leapt about like fleas.

Sydney’s Best Cafes for Kids- Cafe Piemonte, Terrey Hills

Isn’t this the kind of sign you just love to see.

‘Kids playground at rear’ has a certain ring to it.

Cafe Piemonte is my new local. The kindy mums from the twins’ school are meeting here after dropoff regularly.

And of course I have to go each time, such are the onerous duties of the class mum.

How do I manage? I just don’t know. Tough, tough life.  Not!
